About Central Athletic Club
Founded in 1974, Central Athletic Club is the premier athletic club in Stirling and Clackmannanshire. We are also one of the largest clubs in Scotland, and home to our first Olympic finalist Andrew Butchart (5000m, Rio 2016), Commonwealth Games’ athletes Ross Houston (Marathon, 2014), Alastair Hay (1500m, 2010) and Morag MacLarty (1500m, 2006), many Scottish Champions, record holders and internationalists.
As a club, we aim to offer training and competition opportunities for all our members in the disciplines of Track and Field (both Indoor and Outdoor), Cross-Country, Road Running and Hill Running.
Our philosophy, regardless of age and ability, is to encourage and support our members to achieve their goals in a competitive environment.
The Balfron Satellite Group of Central Athletic Club has been established since September 2009.
This sizeable group of 9 to 15 year olds meets every Tuesday night at Balfron High School. The emphasis of the Club during summer months is on track and field events and cross country/some indoor athletics during the winter season.
Our focus is on fun and athletics development. We have established pathways for progression for those athletes who seek active progression. We actively encourage our athletes to compete and are pleased with the number of athletes who compete in both track and field and cross country.
We have appointed a Welfare Officer who is available for advice in relation to child welfare and/or child protection issues.
The Satellite Group is currently full, however anyone interested in joining are encouraged to attend Run Jump Throw classes and then Development Squad via Active Stirling to gain some experience. We operate a Club pathway via the Development Squads.
The group is run by volunteers. We have are fortunate to have friendly and helpful parents who help with administrative jobs and timing nights etc when asked to do so. We always have jobs for parents, the progression and success of the athletes and club is entirely attributed to the volunteers.
Please approach any of the coaches to offer your assistance, we will easily find a job for you!
